The Food and Drug Administration has said that PRock Marketing LLC would recall all of its Fruta Planta weight loss products because they contain the drug sibutramine, which was taking off the market because of safety concerns.
On Friday, The FDA reported in the weight loss product recall, “multiple reports of adverse events” related to using the products, including cardiac events and one fatality. The recalled supplements are marketed as Fruta Planta and Reduce Weight Fruit Planta.
Customers are being advised to stop using the products immediately and throw away remaining products in a sealed container to avoid consumption by anyone else. Anyone experience adverse side effects possible as a result of the using the product was advised to contact a doctor.
A website where the product was sold described Fruta Planta as an “all natural organic” Chinese diet drug that had the ability to eliminate fat. The website said users could lose up to 15 pounds without diet and exercise within one month of starting to take the product. It was marketed as an aid in increasing metabolism, reduce appetite and stop food cravings.
Dietary supplements do not require FDA approval, although the makers and distributors must sell safe products.
The notice about Fruta Planta came after the FDA contacted the makers of dietary supplements earlier this month about concerns over mislabeled products that contained ingredients not allowed in supplements. The FDA has issued consumer warning about some 300 dietary supplements in the past few years.
The recall notice from PRock suggests customers destroy the entire amount of product they have or return it to the company. PRock can be reached at 1-877-225-1009.
