Rolaids Recalled, Another Black and Blue for J&J

Johnson and Johnson RecallMore than 13 million packages of Rolaids, a popular antacid, are being recalled after consumers reportedly are finding bits of wood and metal in the heartburn tablets.

It is another black and blue mark for Johnson and Johnson as another recall headline plagues the company. Over the past year over 135 Million items have been recalled alone including, Benadryl, Motrin, kid’s medicines and an FDA criminal investigation is in process against the company for practices and recalls

The Rolaids recall was announced Thursday. It applies to Rolaids Extra Strength Softchews, Gas Softchews, Rolaids Extra Strength and Rolaids Multi-Symptom Plus Anti-Gas Softchews. According to the company, a voluntary recall was issued after “a small number adverse reports associated with the products.”

Unintended problems resulting from use of the recalled products included gum and tooth injury, vomiting and abnormal taste. McNeil Consumer Heathcare, the Johnson & Johnson subsidiary that distributes Rolaids, said, “the risk of serious adverse health consequences [from using the recalled products] is remote.” The company also advised customers to stop using the products.

Johnson & Johnson said it was halting production of the recalled Rolaids products while it investigated the cause of the contamination, which likely occurred during the manufacturing process.

McNeil Consumer Healthcare has issued recalls for around 40 different medicines in the past year.

Anyone who purchased items included in the Rolaids recall can contact the company online at www.rolaids.com or by calling (888)222-6037 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, or 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The company can then provide instructions on how to obtain a refund. Anyone with medical questions or concerns should contract a doctor.
