Kohl’s Corporation plans to open twenty-one stores, a move that will create jobs for around 3000 people. The new openings have come when unemployment remains high and shoppers are searching for deals, creating the lower priced home items and clothing offered by Kohl’s. Retail items sold at Kohl’s include private brands and exclusive labels.
The Menomonee Falls based chain of stores; operate in 49 states with a total of 1,067 stores making it the 24th largest retail outlet in America. The new store openings will span 15 states, Nevada, Missouri, Minnesota, Maryland, Louisiana, Kentucky, Kansas, Illinois, Florida, California, Alabama, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York.
The announcement came just one day after rival department store J.C. Penney announced their opening of three stores in the coming year. J. C. Penny plans to increase sales by targeting middle-income shoppers.
Recently, Kohl’s opened an operations and customer service center in San Antonio for serving its online and credit card customers. The San Antonio location hired two hundred workers and plans to add another one thousand jobs over the next three years.
The company also has operations and customer service centers located in Corsicana, Menomonee Falls in Wisconsin and a location in Texas. Apart from new openings, Kohl’s is also renovating some 85 already existing locations.
In 1998, Kohl’s also featured in the S&P list of 500 companies and in 2010 entered Fortune 500. The company located at Menomonee Falls in Wisconsin, revenue from footwear and men’s merchandise sales, increased 4.5%.
In Friday’s afternoon trade on the NYSE, the KSS was trading up 4 cents to $52.72. Kohl’s will report earnings on November 11.
