Paris Hilton was arrested Friday night and later released from the Clark County jail early Saturday morning. Her and a friend were detained on charges that include cocaine possession.
Hilton, the popular heiress, was in the passenger seat of a black Cadillac Escalade when it was pulled over late Friday night. The arrest was prompted by the smell of marijuana smoke coming from inside the car as a police officer passed. CY Waits, the driver of the SUV, and rumored to be her boyfriend, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after leaving a nearby club.
As Hilton was asked to exit the SUV, when she stepped out of the vehicle, she reached into her purse for some lip balm when a container rolled out in front of the officer. Sgt. John Sheahan of the Las Vegas Police Department said, “a plastic bindle of white substance fell out of her purse.” The substance was tested, and it tested positive for cocaine.
Hilton was booked on a felony for possession of cocaine and the SUV impounded. She was determined not be a “flight risk,” and released by her own recognizance. Hilton’s attorney, David Chesnoff, said in a statement “This matter will be dealt with in the courts, not in the media, and I encourage people not to rush to judgment until all of the facts have been dealt with in a court of law”.
Paris Hilton has been in the news alot as of late. Earlier this month an intruder was arrested outside her California home armed with two knives. Last month Hilton was arrested in South Africa at the World Cup for having marijuana in her possession. However, her publicist said it was “a complete misunderstanding,” and the charges were dropped on the case.
