Paleontologists discovered two horned dinosaur fossils in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, south of Utah. The dinosaurs are of a new species and related to the famous Triceratops.

Paleontologist said the giant plant-eating dinosaurs were from the ‘Lost Continent of Laramidia’,’ which is in the central part of North America. They revealed the discovery in an online open access journal sponsored by the Public Library of Science.

The smaller creature is called Kosmoceratops Richardsoni. Kosmos is a Latin word meaning “ornate,” because of the dotted horns around the skull. The latter part of its name is from Scott Richardson. He is the volunteer whom discovered the skulls of the creature.

Scott Sampson, a leading author, illustrated the animal as “one of the most amazing creatures known.”

According to research, the Komoceratops is “the most ornate headed dinosaur ever known.” It has 15 horns, which are found over the top of each eye, over the nose, at the tilt of each cheekbone and the rest are across the rear portion of the bony frill.

The other creature is bigger than the Komoceratops. It has a skull, which is about seven feet long, and named Utahceratops Gettyi. Ceratops is from an ancient Greek word, which means “horned face.”

The animal was named after Mike Getty and the state of Utah. Getty, who unearthed and discovered the creature, works at Utah Museum of Natural History as the collections manager of Paleontology.

The research study was sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
