Viewers and judges on “Dancing with the Stars” said goodbye Tuesday night to America’s mom Florence Henderson of “Brady Bunch.”
Henderson and her professional dance partner Corky Ballas danced to the “Brady Bunch” theme song during Monday night’s show. The judges like it, giving he pair 21 points for the tango routine and telling Henderson it was her best performance yet.
The show did a “TV Tune Week” and put dancers’ routines to classic TV show theme songs. Brandy, for example, danced a jive to the theme from “Friends.”
Since Henderson, 76, was not one of the two lowest scores after Monday night, her elimination was a bit of shocker.
“I have been in television for over 50 years,” Henderson said. “I have to say this is one of the best produced shows I’ve ever been on. The best crew, hair, makeup, even the judges are the best.”
Henderson was known as a fan of the show before she became a formidable contestant.
“I hope I’ve inspired people to get up, off their behinds, and move, and dance, and live and enjoy life,” she said.
The two couples at the bottom of the scoreboard, Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas, and Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer, were the first two pairs declared safe on Tuesday. Bristol the Pistol missed a few steps during her Monday night ‘monkey suit’ performance but survived to dance another day.
Brandy, along with her professional dance partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy scored above Jennifer Grey and her partner Derek Hough. Judges said Brandy’s performance Monday was her best yet. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba told Grey her performance was good, just not the best she had done.
In a rare feature on the show, The Mwano Brothers performed a dance to “Beggin”, a song by Madcon. The Mwano brothers, from the Congo, paid tribute to their mom for the sacrifices she has made since moving the family from Africa. Moving to America has given the brothers a chance to become successful. Rather than going to the movies the family enjoys dancing.
Other guest performers for Tuesday night’s “Dancing with the Stars” show were Shakira and Jason Derulo.
