Square Enix, the publisher of the famous Final Fantasy Game Series, announced the latest installment, which is the sequel to Final Fantasy XIII. Final Fantasy XIII- 2 will be available for sale in videogame retail stores in winter of 2011. The RPG game formats are accessible for both Sony Playstation and Xbox 360.

Its prequel, the FFXIII, was released in Japan on December 2009, but a U.S. version was subsequently released on March 9, 2010. The RPG game was claimed by its publisher as the fastest selling title in the franchise’s history.

FFXIII is a story that takes place in Cocoon, a place that is introduced as a floating utopia in the sky and is ruled by a government labeled as the Sanctum. The Sanctum orders for the elimination of I’Cie, a group of people who have come in contact with Pulse, the underworld of Cocoon. Lightning, the story’s main protagonist, decides to go against the government when his sister, Serah, is branded as an I’Cie. As the story unfolds, Lightning receives help from Snow Villiers, Oerba Dia Vanille, Oerba Yun Fang, Hope Estheim, and Sazh Katroy. The story ends with the destruction of Cocoon. Lightning and Snow are reunited with Serah while Sazh is reunited with his son, Dajh. Vanille and Fang are given the responsibility of administering the recovery of Cocoon.

Since 1987, when the first Final Fantasy game was released, this RPG game series has continued to feature dynamic battle mechanisms and highly creative plots, leading the company to sell over 97 million units from FFI to FFXIII.
