The former American Idol winner is headed back to work after being released from the hospital.
Barrino was hospitalized at Mercy South Hospital in Pineville, N.C. after swallowing a bottle of aspirin and sleeping aids. Police reports have indicated this was a suicide attempt.
Despite the recent depression that led to the attempt, Barrino said she is ready to get back to work, “I can’t thank my fans enough for their prayers and support during such a challenging time. It has given me the motivation to get back to work”
Album sales dropped considerably following the release of her last album. In a statement, Barrino admits to feeling as if her fans no longer wanted to hear her music. “I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this album and I pray that everyone enjoys it as much as I do.”
Amidst her album promotions, Barrino will have to do some soul searching. She will soon have to answer to a lawsuit filed by Paula Cook. Cook alleges that Barrino became romantically involved with her husband, Antuan Cook in August of 2009. She is accused of destroying their marriage.
Brian Dickens, Barrino’s manager has confirmed the relationship between Cook and Barrino. He briefly commented on the situation stating that she “fell in love” with Cook, but she believed he was separated when they began dating. He said she was “heartbroken and is sorry for any pain she may have caused.”
The new album “Back To Me” is scheduled for release on August 24.
