AOL announced talk show host Ellen DeGeneres will be added to their website’s extended family as a means of attracting more visitors.
Starting on Tuesday, the show will be available to view on the AOL website. Content, traffic and promotions will be shared between AOL and the Ellen DeGeneres show. Other websites like KitchenDaily.com and Popeater.com will exchange web links and display clickable links on their website promoting the show. Likewise, the Ellen DeGeneres show will provide links back to the other websites.
This deal is the first of many according to AOL’s new strategy. The company is new marketing plan of linking on to already established brands that harmonizes with its own unique content. For this reason, there will not be financial compensation collected by either party. Telepictures Productions, producers of the Ellen DeGeneres Show, will maintain power over content for the website and advertising space. AOL is looking to recoup revenue lost from online advertising and dial-up sales.
The Ellen DeGeneres show is a variety talk show with Ellen as its host. The show consists of Ellen interviewing celebrity guests and headline newsmakers. Additionally, segments include performances by singers and musicians of all genres, extraordinary talents found in ordinary people and man-on-the street interviews. The Ellen DeGeneres show boasts a great following, which will be beneficial to AOL.
AOL launched a new site Cambio over the summer with a similar arrangement to that of the Ellen DeGeneres show. Cambio features the famed Disney trio, The Jonas Brothers. AOL is expecting to announce more arrangements of the same caliber during the fall.
