Dell Officially Launches the Streak

Dell Streak SmartphoneDell has introduced a new device called the Streak in a response to the iPad and Blackberry. The Streak enters the US market with a $300 price tag and requires a 2-year AT&T contract. It features a 5-inch touch screen and comes with the Google Android 1.6 mobile operating system.

The Dell Streak is a compact device for people who want to expand their digital experience. It is runs on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm, making it one of the fastest devices on the market. Students, busy professionals, and active families will find web browsing on a Streak similar to using a laptop.

The Streak is Wi-Fi capable with the 3G modem. It comes with a 5-mega pixel camera with micro SD memory. The 5-inch screen is only 0.7-inch bigger than Motorola’s Droid X and the resolution is lower than the iPhone 4′s 3.5-inch Retina display.

It is bigger than a smartphone but smaller than a regular tablet pc. It can be used for reading ebooks and watching videos, but may not be ideal for either of those purposes. When compared to the iPad and Blackberry, it falls in between. It is like using a tablet pc as a smartphone.

The Dell Streak adds to the competition faced by Apple and RIM.
