A Texas company has issued a voluntary recall of cilantro and curly parsley after regulators confirmed that tests had found salmonella on cilantro in Detroit and curly parsley in Quebec.
On Monday, J&D Produce Inc., based in Edinburg, Texas, says it is recalling packages of those two products made on Nov. 30 and Dec. 6 plus other items packaged on the same production lines.
“It’s imperative to protect public health, even if that means being overzealous in expanding the scope of the products we’re calling back,” James Bassetti, president of J&D Produce Inc., said in a statement. “We will work closely with regulators, health officials and our customers in bringing back the products. Meanwhile, we’ve already implemented immediate measures to make sure we minimize the likelihood of this re-occurring.”
After learning about test results in the Quebec facility, product lines were shut down and re-sanitized, manual inspection were increased and additional measure to rinse products were implemented, the company said.
“We have a good track record, but we’ll bring our expectations and standards to even higher levels,” Bassetti said.
All the products are packaged under the label Little Bear. Other items included in the recall are leek, arugula, collards, gold beet, curly mustard, kale, plain mustard, green swiss chard, plain parsley, rainbow swiss chard, kohlrabi, mint, beets, methileaf, daikon, turnips, red swiss chard, dill and turnip greens.
The company said there had been no reported illnesses.
