Bumble Bee Chicken, used in chicken salad and sandwich recipes, is a quick lunch item for many "on the go."
A food company in Illinois is recalling 72,000 pounds of chicken salad after several customers complained they found hard plastic in the food.
The Suter Company announced Sunday it was voluntarily recalling 8.2-ounce sized packages of its “Bumble Bee Lunch on the Run Chicken Salad Complete Lunch Kit” and 3.5-ounce sized packages of the “Bumble Bee Chicken Salad with Crackers.”
The affected grocery items were produced and manufactured between August 18 and 28 of this year and were sold in stores throughout the country, according to a release from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service.
“We are working closely with The Suter Company to help expedite and effectively recall these products,” Steve Mavity, senior vice president of technical services and quality assurance for Bumble Bee Foods, said in a statement Monday. “It’s critical to us that we assure our consumers and retailers of a safe and quality product so we very much appreciate everyone’s part in returning the chicken salad kits.”
Mavity noted that the recall is not affecting Bumble Bee’s primary operations, which manufacture and sell canned fish and other seafood products.
“We are aligned with Bumble Bee on the importance of recovering these products and allaying any concerns among consumers,” Tim Suter, president of the Suter Company, said in a statement. “While we lead the recall and will assume financial responsibility for it, we do value the company’s support in driving public awareness and in working with its retail channels to ensure a quick product recovery.”
No injuries from the recalled products have been reported.
