After experimenting with some different judges, Fox’s megahit “American Idol” seems to have found its groove as it begins its tenth season.

After Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi failed to blossom into long-term relationships with the show, the newest edition of “American Idol” introduced music legends Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez to sit along side long-time judge Randy Jackson.

After two rounds of auditions, it was clear the new judges, Tyler and Lopez, would not play into the silly antics of the contestants, nor would they clamor for the spotlight. Their time in the music industry shows in the way they confidently and honestly critique contestants, making for a professional and interesting show after a few seasons of questionable judging.

Their reactions to the auditions were direct but not overly critical, and they had an eye out for talent among all of the hopefuls.

“Baby, you got so much drama but you’ve got no notes,” Tyler told one young woman, signaling that he is capable of delivering honest comments in an entertaining way but without being hostile.

“We say yes to the singing,” Lopez told Tiffany Rio, who during her audition opened her jacket to reveal a skimpy bikini top. “Work on that,” Lopez added. “You want to be taken seriously.”

Meanwhile, Randy Jackson seems to have found a comfortable role in the fresh trio of judges, helping to reflect the confidence and casual nature of his new counterparts, but using his experience to bring a different perspective.

“I think they’re both insane,” he said when his Tyler and Lopez sent one young woman on to Hollywood after she said wanted to be the “Liza Minelli of pop music.”

In its tenth season “American Idol” has opened its doors to younger talent, 15-year-old contestants. Louisiana’s 15-year-old JC Badeaux made it to Hollywood Week. He’s charisma and style surprised the judgest by singing “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay”, Jennifer Lopez said of him while Badeaux sang, “Give it to us, let it go.” Adding, “You are so sweet, so cute.” Fox looks to jump on the teenager bandwagon that has been popular with the Disney Channel.
